Discovering Gesture Drawing

One very important element of drawing is gesture drawing. Gesture drawing is a quick sketch that captures the essence of a subject matter.

Every serious artist practices drawing using gesture drawings in the same way a basketball player practices foul shots. Watch the video below and follow along closely. After you are finished, answer the form assessment questions.

Your assignment this week is to observe the short video below. Next, observe a family member, your pet, or friend, and draw 2 gesture drawings. One drawing is to be done while you are looking at the subject and your paper. The second drawing is to be drawn without you looking at the paper at all. When you are done make a photo of the two drawings together and send it to ihs.db@yahoo.com .
