Discovering The Nabis Art Movement

Artists inspire other artists who may work in a completely different medium or creative venture. A group of French artists inspired decorators and designers to engage the art of the Nabis Group to do just that. The Nabis group of artists saw painting as more of a graphical manner of seeing, meaning that they saw painting as a flat plane with paint or a two dimensional plane that is flat with color. This allowed designers to then adopt their new manner into everyday objects, from wall paper to pottery, etc. One of the most important artists of the Nabis group was Pierre Bonnard. His use of color flattened out the surface and allows the eye to swim in hues and tones that are both vivid and that hold structure such as in stripes and patterns.
