In this lesson we will explore the art of blending, composition, perception, and transformation.
Your lesson is to take three classes and fill them up with water. Next arrange them in such a manner that you can see the reflections of the glasses on the counter. Arrange the glasses so that they overlap each other in an interesting manner.
Using your cell phones make photos from different angles. Using the editing tool on your phone turn the images into black and white by turning the saturation level all the way to the left. Then play with the contrast and brightness levels to choose the best dramatic lighting. Lastly, edit the photo so that only the most important elements of the image are shown.
After you have Made your image print it out and paste it into your sketch book on the left side. On the opposite page create line cavities or organic value shapes of the image as shown in the middle image below. Once your organic shapes are complete add your values and blending to complete your drawing. Notice that you are taking three objects and moving them into position so that they form a third shape of form. The example below shows a triangle. Observe how light reflects off the glasses as well as deposits itself through the glass and water. Drawing the organic value areas allows you to capture the image to then add your vales and blending. This technique can be created with any image. It is a method of drawing that enables one to simple draw with integrity.
